How much does BaseballDraw cost? $7.99 once on the App Store in the U.S. There is no subscription, in-app purchase, or ad, and every feature is included. Does it measure bat speed or pitch velocity? No. BaseballDraw is a visual review tool for the movement you can see in the video. Use a sensor or radar when you need speed, spin, or ball-flight numbers. Are my videos uploaded anywhere? No. Clips and analysis stay on your iPhone or iPad unless you choose to share them. The app has no account and collects no data. I used Coach’s Eye. Is this similar? For baseball, yes: slow motion, drawing on video, and side-by-side comparison. Coach’s Eye has been retired. [See how BaseballDraw compares](coachs-eye-alternative). Baseball video review on iPhone and iPad ## Bring a better question to the next rep. [Home](https://baseballdraw.com/) / About About BaseballDraw # Built to make baseball video review more concrete. BaseballDraw is an independently developed iPhone and iPad app for players, parents, and coaches who want a focused visual review workflow. DB ## David Balderston, developer of BaseballDraw I design, develop, and support BaseballDraw. The app is intentionally honest about its lane: help people inspect visible movement, mark useful checkpoints, organize clips, and communicate from evidence. ## How the guides are made The articles on this site are based on workflows available in BaseballDraw and established video-review practices: stabilize the camera, preserve the full athlete in frame, compare matching views and phases, and avoid inferring measurements the video does not contain. Product claims are checked against the current app. BaseballDraw is a self-review and communication tool, not a substitute for qualified coaching, medical care, or dedicated ball-tracking hardware. ## Corrections and support If a product fact or guide needs correction, email [help@baseballdraw.com](mailto:help@baseballdraw.com?subject=BaseballDraw%20Website%20Correction). [Home](https://baseballdraw.com/) / Hitting video analysis Hitting video analysis # Review the swing you actually recorded. Turn a batting-cage or field video into a clear conversation about one part of your swing. BaseballDraw gives players, parents, and coaches frame controls, drawing tools, and clip comparison on iPhone and iPad. ## Start with a useful hitting clip Record in the app or import from Photos. Keep the whole hitter, bat, and follow-through visible from a safe camera position. A steady side view helps you inspect changes in posture and head position. Use the [recording guide](posts/how-to-record-baseball-swing-video-iphone) to keep the setup consistent between sessions. ## Find contact, then inspect the frames around it In hitting mode, slow playback and step one frame at a time. Look for the first frame where contact is visible, then check the frames immediately before and after it. You are reviewing what the video captured; the app cannot recover motion that happened between recorded frames. ## Make one checkpoint visible Use frame controls and a simple drawing to make the question clear. Draw a line beside the starting head position or mark the front-foot position. Move through the clip and compare the visible movement with your reference. Body overlays provide another visual aid; check the joints against the underlying video. See [how to draw on a baseball video](posts/draw-lines-on-baseball-video-iphone). ## Compare two sessions at the same phase Open two clips in comparison, then align the same movement phase using each clip’s controls. Similar camera height, distance, and angle make the comparison useful. A different camera position can look like a different swing. Read the [swing comparison guide](posts/baseball-swing-comparison-app-iphone). ## Share a question your coach can answer Save an annotated photo or video. Include the drill and one question, such as “Does my head move forward between stride and contact?” Notes and tags help you find the clip after your next practice. Your videos stay on your device unless you choose to share them. ## One payment, every tool $7.99 once on the App Store (U.S. price). No subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads, and no account. Every feature is included, and Apple shows your local price before you buy. [See pricing details](pricing) or [compare baseball video apps](baseball-video-analysis-apps). ## What this app does not measure BaseballDraw is a visual review tool, not a bat sensor or automatic coaching diagnosis. It does not report bat speed, exit velocity, or a three-dimensional swing plane. If your question is about those measurements, use appropriate measurement hardware. ## Also working on your delivery? Use the [pitching video analysis workflow](pitching-video-analysis-app) for foot strike, release, and comparisons between bullpen sessions. Current purchase options, local review, cloud coaching, and external measurement hardware. Practical guide # Baseball video analysis apps: review, coaching, and measurement By [David Balderston](https://davidb.app/) · Updated October 10, 2026 **BaseballDraw is a $7.99, one-time iPhone and iPad purchase for reviewing baseball video on device.** Choose it for slow motion, drawing, body overlays, clip comparison, and notes. Choose a coaching platform when you need a shared team library or ongoing athlete messaging. Choose measurement hardware when your question is pitch speed, exit velocity, or bat data. Written by David Balderston, BaseballDraw’s developer. This is a documented workflow comparison, not an independent accuracy test or a claim that one app improves performance more than another. Sources and U.S. prices were checked on October 10, 2026. ## Compare the job each product does Workflow and purchase comparison | Product | Useful for | U.S. purchase options | What to check | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | BaseballDraw | Private hitting and pitching clip review, annotations, comparison, and exports | $7.99 once; no subscription or in-app purchases | iPhone/iPad, iOS/iPadOS 18 or later; no measured ball or bat data | | Onform | Coach-athlete video feedback, cloud organization, and supported measurement integrations | Athlete Standard $9.99/month or $99.99/year; coach plans from $19.99/month | Athlete/coach plans differ; external radar and automatic capture depend on plan and hardware | | CoachNow Analyze | Video analysis in a small shared coaching workspace | $9.99/month or $59/year | Five Spaces/Groups and a 250-media allowance; larger coaching plans separate | | V1 Baseball | Video comparison, models, and remote coach feedback in V1’s workflow | Free download; listing includes $9.99/month and $39.99/$49.99 annual purchases | Multiple listed offers do not establish the plan every buyer sees; confirm tool access in the app | Sources: [BaseballDraw on Apple](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id6763628837), [Onform’s plan matrix](https://onform.com/pricing/), [CoachNow pricing](https://coachnow.com/pricing), and [V1 Baseball on Apple](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id1530643098). Local storefronts, trials, and offers can differ. ## When BaseballDraw fits a practice session Import a clip from Photos or record in the app. Step through the motion, add a line or angle, compare a second clip, and save notes or an annotated export. It works well for a focused question that you and a coach can see in the footage: a particular checkpoint, a change between attempts, or a frame to discuss later. Your clips stay on device unless you share them. The app does not require an account, subscription, or team setup. It also does not provide coach-athlete messaging, a shared cloud library, or Android access. Use the [getting-started guide](https://baseballdraw.com/getting-started/) and [baseball filming guides](https://baseballdraw.com/explore/) to see the workflow before buying. ## When a coaching platform is a better fit If a coach needs to assign work, receive clips from several athletes, and maintain a shared conversation, compare Onform or CoachNow around those tasks. The monthly cost buys a collaboration workflow that a private local library does not provide. Ask which coach plan is required, whether athletes need their own paid access, and how video/storage allowances work. V1 Baseball is another option when you want V1’s models and instructor-feedback ecosystem. Its App Store listing describes drawing, comparison, cloud-saved sessions, and lessons. Check the actual plan and purchase screen; this article does not assume that every described feature is included free. ## Video review and measured ball data answer different questions BaseballDraw does **not** measure pitch velocity, exit velocity, spin, bat speed, or injury risk. Apparent movement in an ordinary camera view is affected by perspective, distance, frame rate, and shutter blur. Drawing an angle on a frame is not a calibrated biomechanical or medical assessment. Some coaching platforms can connect to external measurement devices. For example, Onform’s published plan matrix lists Pocket Radar and Stalker integrations. That means “no ball metrics” would be an inaccurate description of the entire Onform product. Check the supported device, subscription tier, and capture workflow when choosing a measurement setup. If your main goal is numerical ball or bat data, start with the device that measures it and verify how its results connect to video. If your goal is discussing a visible movement with a coach, a simpler video tool may be sufficient. ## How to make a useful side-by-side comparison 1. Keep camera position, height, orientation, distance, and zoom consistent between attempts. 2. Capture the whole action in useful light. Keep the camera and people clear of the practice area. 3. Compare the same point in each motion, rather than simply matching elapsed video time. 4. Add one annotation that answers a stated question. A dense screen of lines can obscure the movement. 5. Include the camera view and question when sending a clip to a coach. Retain the original and obtain permission before sharing someone else’s footage. This makes the footage easier to interpret; it does not establish that a technique change is safe or correct. A qualified coach can supply the context the app cannot. ## Can students watch an exported clip without buying BaseballDraw? Yes. An exported annotated photo or video is a normal media file that you can share through iOS. Interactive editing and the saved app library require the app. Check [pricing](https://baseballdraw.com/pricing) and [support](https://baseballdraw.com/support/) for the current purchase and workflow details. ## Which app replaces Coach’s Eye for baseball? Start with the task you miss. BaseballDraw covers local frame stepping, annotations, comparison, and exports. A cloud coaching platform is more relevant if you miss messaging and shared team organization. See the [Coach’s Eye replacement guide](https://baseballdraw.com/coachs-eye-alternative) for the workflow differences. BaseballDraw gives baseball players and coaches slow motion, drawing, and side-by-side video comparison on iPhone for $7.99 once, with no subscription. [Home](https://baseballdraw.com/) / Coach’s Eye alternative Coach’s Eye alternative • Updated September 25, 2026 # Replacing Coach’s Eye for baseball video. Coach’s Eye made it simple to slow a clip down, draw on it, and compare two reps. It no longer works. If baseball is your sport, BaseballDraw covers that core workflow on iPhone and iPad. ## What happened to Coach’s Eye TechSmith took Coach’s Eye off sale on September 14, 2021 and later retired the service; its official page now says it is no longer a working service. Hudl Technique, another popular option formerly called Ubersense, was discontinued in 2021 after OnForm acquired it. [Read TechSmith’s retirement notice](https://go.coachseye.com/retirement/). ## What BaseballDraw keeps - **Slow motion and frame stepping** to find contact, foot strike, or release. - **Drawing tools**: lines, circles, arrows, and angles directly on the video. - **Side-by-side comparison** of two clips aligned at the same phase. - **Export and share** an annotated photo or video through the iOS share sheet. - **Pose overlays** computed on the device, plus separate hitting and pitching modes. ## What is different BaseballDraw is built for baseball only. It has no cloud library, team accounts, or in-app messaging; you share clips through Messages, email, or any app in the iOS share sheet. If you coach several sports or need a hosted coach–athlete platform, OnForm or CoachNow is a better fit. See the [full app comparison](baseball-video-analysis-apps). ## The price $7.99 once on the App Store (U.S. price). No subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads, and no account. Every feature is included, and Apple shows your local price before you buy. Most active alternatives charge a monthly or yearly subscription. ## Bring your old clips BaseballDraw imports any video saved in Photos, including clips you exported from older apps. Import, choose hitting or pitching mode, and start marking frames. ## Start with a workflow See [swing analysis](baseball-swing-analysis-app) or [pitching video analysis](pitching-video-analysis-app) step by step. Move or adjust annotations when the first placement is not quite right. ## Use pose overlays as a visual aid On-device body pose overlays make posture and joint relationships easier to inspect. They support human review; they are not a medical assessment or an automatic mechanics grade. ## Compare like-for-like clips Place two clips side by side, align the same movement phase, and compare sessions without relying on memory. Similar camera angles make the comparison more useful. ## Keep a private baseball library Save useful clips with thumbnails, favorites, tags, and notes so a camera roll does not become the training record. Your media stays on your device unless you choose to share it. ## Export the evidence Share an annotated still or video with a coach, player, or parent. Export the smallest useful piece so the question and checkpoint are obvious. Practical examples # Review baseball video: hitting, pitching, and practice comparisons BaseballDraw is available for iPhone and iPad. It supports hands-on review of hitting and pitching video with drawing, frame stepping, pose overlays, and comparison. A useful review starts with a steady camera and a specific question. ## Inspect a hitting checkpoint Record or import a clip with the player fully visible. Step through the movement to the moment you want to review, then add a line or angle as a visual reference. Compare nearby frames before deciding whether the checkpoint is consistent. The angle of the camera affects what a drawing appears to measure. The comparison screen displays two baseball clips with drawing annotations. These are visual reference marks, not bat-speed or ball-flight measurements. [Open full-size image](https://baseballdraw.com/assets/screenshots/iphone-compare.webp). ## Compare two pitching clips Choose videos with similar framing and camera placement. Align the same phase in side-by-side comparison and examine one visible checkpoint at a time. Pose overlays can help orient the review, but check them against the actual player. A phone video does not by itself establish pitch speed, spin, or injury risk. ## Keep a useful practice record Add notes and tags that describe the session and the question you were testing. Compare against an earlier clip after another practice, using the same recording setup where possible. Export a focused annotated clip or still when you want feedback, and inspect the exported file before sending it. ## Before you rely on the result BaseballDraw does not provide pitch velocity, spin, exit velocity, bat speed, workload, or medical measurements. Slow down your delivery, mark a visible checkpoint, and compare it with another bullpen session. BaseballDraw helps pitchers, parents, and coaches work from the same video evidence. ## Record a repeatable view of the delivery Use a stable camera position outside the path of players and balls. Include the pitcher’s full body and follow-through. A side view helps you inspect visible stride and sequence; another angle may answer a different question. Keep the angle consistent when comparing sessions. ## Use pitching mode to inspect the movement Record or import a clip, select pitching mode, and use slow motion and frame controls to inspect leg lift, foot strike, release, and follow-through. Phase markers are navigation aids. Verify the frame yourself before drawing a conclusion. ## Bracket release instead of guessing an exact instant Inspect nearby frames and add a visible position reference. Find the last frame where the ball appears in the hand and the first frame where it has separated. The release happens between them. Mark the apparent hand position relative to the body in that view. See the [release-point review guide](posts/baseball-pitching-release-point-app-iphone) for what a phone clip can and cannot show. ## Compare the same checkpoint in two clips Align both videos at foot strike or another matching phase. Draw a direction or posture reference and look for visible differences. Use notes to record pitch type, drill, camera angle, and what you were trying to change. Different camera geometry can distort the comparison. ## Keep the feedback with the clip Add a voice note or tag, save the useful frame or annotated video, and share it with a coach. Keep one question attached to the evidence instead of sending an entire camera roll. The [sharing guide](posts/send-baseball-video-to-coach) provides a short checklist. ## Review privately for one price $7.99 once on the App Store (U.S. price). Always compare the overlay to the original frame before using it as evidence. ## Compare the same pitch intent and view Pitch type, effort, mound, camera position, and fatigue can change the appearance. If one clip is side-on and the other diagonal, limit the comparison to observations that remain valid. ## Match the intent and environment Compare similar drills, pitch sources, effort levels, bats, and constraints. A tee swing and a high-velocity live at-bat answer different questions. ## Align the same phase Compare load to load, heel plant to heel plant, contact to contact, or finish to finish. Aligning by elapsed time alone can hide tempo differences. ## Choose one checkpoint Head position, posture, stride direction, contact depth, or finish balance can be useful. Avoid turning one comparison into a full swing diagnosis. ## Write down what actually changed Save a note describing the drill or cue and the visible result. That context is what turns two clips into a useful training record. ## Keep the better evidence, not only the better outcome A hard-hit ball does not prove every movement was better, and a poor outcome does not erase a useful mechanics change. Motion blur can hide the barrel between frames. ## Mark reference areas, not a fake trajectory Use lines for posture, contact zone, shoulder direction, or another visible reference. Do not draw a smooth path through frames that the camera never captured. ## Align the same hitting phase Compare the bat and body around heel plant, contact, and extension rather than matching clips only by elapsed time. ## Separate outcome from the visible movement Ball flight and contact quality matter, but one result does not fully explain the movement. Step frame by frame and verify the visible event before drawing. ## Use a line for direction or posture Common examples include stride direction, spine or torso posture, shoulder tilt, head boundaries, or a reference through the hips. State what the line represents. ## Use circles and arrows sparingly A circle can isolate a foot, hand, head, or release area. An arrow can call out movement direction. One or two marks are usually enough. ## Use angles for repeatable positions Angle tools can help compare visible joint or body-segment positions, but the result depends on camera geometry and point placement. Treat the number as a frame-specific reference. ## Move or delete weak annotations If the first mark is ambiguous, adjust it. Keeping only the strongest annotation makes exported feedback easier to understand. ## Export with a written cue Pair the image with a short note such as “compare head position at heel plant” so another viewer knows what the mark is meant to show. A rear view can help with stride direction and arm-slot context. Keep the full body and release area visible. ## Review the delivery by phase Move through set, leg lift, hand break, foot strike, maximum external rotation, release, and follow-through. Exact labels are less important than consistently comparing the same visible moment. ## Mark body position, not invisible forces Lines can clarify posture, stride direction, shoulder tilt, and head position. Do not infer joint loading or injury risk from a single marked frame. ## Inspect release in context The release frame matters, but so do the frames before and after it. Compare release position with foot strike, trunk rotation, and follow-through rather than treating arm slot as an isolated shape. ## Compare sessions under similar constraints Mound height, footwear, effort, pitch intent, camera angle, and fatigue can all change what the clip looks like. Choose one question before pressing play Start with a specific question such as whether the head drifts during the stride, the front side opens before contact, or posture changes through rotation. Reviewing everything at once usually produces vague feedback. ## 2. Use a clip that preserves the whole movement Keep the hitter, bat path area, plate area, and enough space for the follow-through visible. A stable side view is useful for posture and sequence; a rear or front view can help with direction and alignment. ## 3. Find the phase instead of scrubbing randomly Step through load, stride, heel plant, contact, extension, and finish. Phase labels create a shared vocabulary, but always verify the actual frame because video timing and body-pose estimates can vary. ## 4. Add one visible checkpoint Draw a posture line, head boundary, hip-depth guide, shoulder line, or direction cue. A simple annotation is more useful than a screen full of marks that compete for attention. ## 5. Use the pose overlay as a guide A pose overlay can make joint relationships easier to see, especially when clothing and background reduce contrast. Treat it as a visual aid; a missed or shifted joint should be corrected by looking at the original video. ## 6. Compare like with like Use similar camera height, distance, zoom, and phase when comparing two swings. A difference caused by camera geometry is not a mechanics change. ## 7. Export the exact evidence Share the marked frame or short clip that supports your question. Include the drill, pitch type if known, intent, and what you want the viewer to evaluate. Do not let the frame cut off the bat, stride foot, or finish. ## Stabilize and protect the phone Use a tripod, fence mount, or stable support outside the path of players, balls, bats, and foot traffic. Never trade safety for a cleaner angle. ## Use good light and avoid digital zoom Bright, even light helps both human review and pose overlays. Move the camera when safe instead of relying on digital zoom, which can reduce detail and amplify shake. ## Keep comparison conditions consistent Record the view, drill, pitch source, intent, and any major equipment change. Those details explain differences that the pixels alone cannot. [Home](https://baseballdraw.com/) / Articles / Pitching camera setup Article • Updated August 29, 2026 # How to record pitching video you can actually review. By [David Balderston](../about), developer of BaseballDraw. Most pitching clips fail before anyone reviews them: the camera is behind a fence at a bad angle, the stride foot is cut off, or every bullpen is filmed from a different spot. A few setup habits fix that. **BaseballDraw for iPhone and iPad**Review hitting and pitching clips on your device. $7.99 one-time purchase. No subscription or in-app purchases. [See BaseballDraw on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id6763628837) ## Put safety first Never place the phone or yourself in the path of the pitch, a batted ball, or the catcher. Use a netting-protected position, a fence mount, or a tripod well outside the throwing lane. ## Choose the view for the question A side view from the pitcher’s open side is best for leg lift, stride length, trunk position, and sequence into release. A view from behind home plate or directly behind the mound helps with stride direction and arm-slot context. Pick one view per question. ## Frame the entire delivery Keep the pitcher’s head, glove, throwing hand, and both feet in frame from set position through follow-through. Leave room for the stride and deceleration so the key frames are not cut off. ## Use slow motion and good light Record in the iPhone’s slow-motion mode when the light is good; fast arm action blurs at normal frame rates. Daylight or even facility lighting also helps pose overlays follow the body. ## Keep the setup repeatable Note where the phone sits, its height, and its distance from the rubber. Using the same spot each bullpen makes side-by-side comparisons meaningful instead of a comparison of camera angles. ## Record the context Write down pitch type, intent, mound or flat ground, and pitch count. In BaseballDraw, a note or tag on the clip keeps that context with the video. [Home](https://baseballdraw.com/) / Articles / Slow motion Article • Updated August 29, 2026 # Use slow motion to find the moment—not invent a metric. By [David Balderston](../about), developer of BaseballDraw. Slow motion makes brief movements visible. It is strongest when used to locate a phase, compare a checkpoint, and communicate a question. **BaseballDraw for iPhone and iPad**Review hitting and pitching clips on your device. $7.99 one-time purchase. No subscription or in-app purchases. [See BaseballDraw on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id6763628837) ## Begin at full speed Watch the entire rep once to preserve the overall rhythm and intent. Then slow down around the phase connected to your question. ## Step frame by frame near the event For hitting, bracket heel plant, contact, and extension. For pitching, bracket foot strike, trunk rotation, release, and follow-through. ## Do not estimate speed from playback alone Slow playback does not reveal pitch velocity, bat speed, or exit velocity without reliable timing, distance, calibration, and appropriate measurement methods. ## Use annotations after locating the phase Marking too early can anchor the review on the wrong frame. Find the moment first, then add a simple guide. ## Compare phase order and visible position Slow motion can help show whether one visible event occurs before another and how body position differs at a matched phase. ## Return to full speed before deciding A frame can look unusual while the full movement remains functional. End by watching the rep again at normal speed. [Home](https://baseballdraw.com/) / Articles / For parents Article • Updated August 29, 2026 # Review your young player’s video without overcoaching. By [David Balderston](../about), developer of BaseballDraw. Phone video can help a young hitter or pitcher see what a coach is describing. It works best when the player is part of the review, the question is small, and the coach stays in the loop. **BaseballDraw for iPhone and iPad**Review hitting and pitching clips on your device. $7.99 one-time purchase. No subscription or in-app purchases. [See BaseballDraw on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id6763628837) ## Ask before filming, and follow team rules Some leagues and facilities restrict recording, especially of other people’s children. Check the rules, film only your player where possible, and ask before sharing any clip that includes teammates. ## Record practice, not every at-bat Cage sessions, tee work, and bullpen days give repeatable video from a steady position. Game clips are exciting but vary in angle and distance, which makes them hard to compare. ## Start with the coach’s cue If the coach is working on staying balanced or keeping the head still, review that single item. A focused clip supports the coach’s plan instead of competing with it. ## Let the player find the frame Hand over the phone and ask the player to step to the moment the front foot lands or the ball is released. Seeing the frame for themselves often lands better than a parent’s explanation. ## Keep it short and positive One marked frame and one question is plenty after a long practice. Save a clip that shows the goal done well so there is a reference to come back to. ## Know what video cannot tell you An iPhone clip will not measure bat speed, pitch velocity, or injury risk. If a player reports pain, talk with a qualified medical professional rather than looking for answers in the video.
