A practical hitting mechanics video checklist.
This checklist is a way to organize observation, not a universal model of the perfect swing. Player intent, pitch location, drill, body, and coaching plan all matter.
Setup and framing
Confirm the whole hitter and bat path area are visible. Note the camera view, drill, pitch source, and intent before interpreting positions.
Load and gather
Inspect visible balance, head movement, hand and torso preparation, and whether the athlete stays organized for the intended task.
Stride and heel plant
Review stride direction, head position, posture, and the relationship between the lower and upper body at a consistent phase.
Contact neighborhood
Bracket the frames around contact. Note posture, head position, hand and barrel relationship, and contact depth while accounting for pitch location.
Extension and finish
Inspect direction through the ball, balance, deceleration, and whether the finish reflects the intended swing rather than forcing a cosmetic pose.
One change at a time
Choose the observation that best connects to the current coaching cue and test it under similar recording conditions.
