Use slow motion to find the moment—not invent a metric.
Slow motion makes brief movements visible. It is strongest when used to locate a phase, compare a checkpoint, and communicate a question.
Begin at full speed
Watch the entire rep once to preserve the overall rhythm and intent. Then slow down around the phase connected to your question.
Step frame by frame near the event
For hitting, bracket heel plant, contact, and extension. For pitching, bracket foot strike, trunk rotation, release, and follow-through.
Do not estimate speed from playback alone
Slow playback does not reveal pitch velocity, bat speed, or exit velocity without reliable timing, distance, calibration, and appropriate measurement methods.
Use annotations after locating the phase
Marking too early can anchor the review on the wrong frame. Find the moment first, then add a simple guide.
Compare phase order and visible position
Slow motion can help show whether one visible event occurs before another and how body position differs at a matched phase.
Return to full speed before deciding
A frame can look unusual while the full movement remains functional. End by watching the rep again at normal speed.
